From a statement issued by the Project Director:
The entry form for QN'05 clearly states that work must have been completed after September, 2002. The purpose of this rule is to ensure that QN will include only NEW works.
When she came to the opening, Anna Torma brought me a book which included two of the three pieces that were submitted for the jurors' consideration. Both of the submitted pieces were dated "2001."
The inescapable conclusion was that the work that had been granted the Award for Best of Show was, in fact, ineligible for the competition and, as a result, ineligible for the award.
In fairness to all the other entrants who refrained from submitting ineligible work, I felt that I had no choice but to remove this work from the exhibition.
While I cannot guarantee that there have not been other ineligible works submitted for Quilt National, when I am presented with proof of the ineligibility of a particular work, I must preserve Quilt National's reputation and take whatever action is possible to rectify this injustice. I consider this response to be most regrettable but, at the same time, unavoidable.
You will, of course, notice even stronger and more precise wording in the entry form for Quilt National '07.
